Land Acknowledgment

Sanatan Bengali Cultural Association (SBCA) community members respectfully acknowledge that we live and work on the traditional territory of ‎the Neutral, Anishinaabe, and Haudenosaunee peoples, whose enduring presence, contributions and cultural knowledge we recognize. We acknowledge the continuing accomplishments and contributions Indigenous Peoples make in shaping the Waterloo Region. We are committed to understanding the impact of settler colonialism on the Indigenous experience to envision and co-create collaborative, respectful paths together in mutuality and reciprocity.

Objective(s)

  1. To perform Puja (a Form of Annual Prayer as per the Sanatan Religion).
  2. To celebrate all major Sanatan (aka Hindu) festivals such as Krishna Janmashtami, Durga Puja, Laxmi Puja, Diwali (KaliPuja), Saraswati Puja and/or any other socio-religious festivals as the Directors’ Board decides. 
  3. To increase Hindu religious awareness among the members and spread the love of God and Goddess.
  4. To arrange annual get-together meetings, picnics and other social events.
  5. To perform cultural activities based on Sanatan Religion and Bengali Cultural Heritage.
  6. To help organize seminars and workshops for people with addictions and homelessness.
  7.  To arrange food banks and used clothes drives for the local community in dire need.
  8. To promote the way of Sanatan living, philosophy, and performance.
  9. To organize one or two socio-cultural fundraising events in a year to help the underprivileged people in the Greater Region of Waterloo.
  10. To establish a Hindu temple as a permanent place named “Kitchener Durgabari,” or “Sanatan Bangali Hindu Mondir,” or “Sanatan Bengali Hindu Cultural Temple” for actively practicing Sanatan religion and relevant socio-cultural festivals.
